CIF recently announced the new league alignments that will begin next fall. As you can see, the Sierra League is definitely getting beefed up with Charter Oak. The still ever tough Baseline League sees the addition of Glendora to the list. Interesting move as the Tartans have really been the team in the Sierra League that keeps people on their toes. I like the combination of the Miramonte and San Antonio League and of course the addition of Diamond Bar. It’s been tough for the Brahmas in the Sierra League, but it doesn’t get easier with Los Altos, Rowland, West Covina, Walnut and Diamond Ranch. For Diamond Bar locals it’s been a rivalry game between Walnut and Diamond Bar with the Branding Iron game, but now Diamond Ranch is in the picture where players from Diamond Bar attend Diamond Ranch if they don’t live in a particular boundary in Diamond Bar. So, the City will get two rivalry games in the season. As for the Mt. Baldy league, it’s another meaningful match-up for Chino and Don Lugo as they usually meet up for the Milk Can game in non-league action, but this time it league action as well and Coach Greg Setlitch faces his old team.

In all, I like the changes and it makes a lot of sense and should bring great local football to all areas of the CIF Southern Section. Tell me your thoughts and do you agree or disagree with the changes?

Baseline League: Alta Loma, Etiwanda, Glendora, Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland
Sierra League: Ayala, Charter Oak, Chino Hills, Claremont, Damien/St. Lucy’s, South Hills
Miramonte/San Antonio League: Bonita, Diamond Bar, Diamond Ranch, Los Altos, Rowland, Walnut, West Covina
Mt. Baldy League: Chaffey, Chino, Colony, Don Lugo, Garey, Montclair, Ontario
Valle Vista League: Baldwin Park, Covina, Nogales, Northview, Pomona, San Dimas, Wilson

It was definitely the most exciting game of Week 3 in the Non-League season. The Diamond Ranch Panthers and the Chino Hills Huskies went down to the final 2.2 seconds of the game and ended in dramatic fashion. It was another game that I will never forget.

Speaking of games never to forget, there is also another Chino Hills game that I will never forget. I know the Huskies faithful will cringe, but the game against Damien was the same scenario where it came down to the final seconds. I believe it was .2 seconds left.

Of course, another game that Huskies fans also never forget are the annual games against cross town rivals the Ayala Bulldogs. They unofficially call it the, “Battle of the Bone.” Now it’s even spun off to the name “Battle of the Dog Pound.” Whatever you want to call name this game is just a minor point to a game that brings out the community to watch two of the Sierra League’s best hammer it out.

So, do you have a Chino Hills Huskies never forget game that you want to share with us, then tell us here on the blog or if the ones I mentioned bring you back memories, tell us your thoughts on the game and what you were doing when it all came down to the wire.

By the way, if you want to relive those games I mentioned above, the Week 3 Game video is on the website, the Damien game is on video here on one of the past blogs. If you can’t find it, just google it and I know it’s on YouTube. As for the Ayala vs. Chino Hills game, if we receive enough requests and feedback from you the fans, then we will bring you the game possibly in a full game broadcast or at least in highlights if we can’t bring the full game to you.

Every local paper and national ones too have places their top 10 and 25 teams for 2009 for everyone to read. It’s always fun to watch these games, but also a lot of work too. Our camera crews on game days start at 4 p.m. and tape the whole game they are assigned to. Then, it’s the fun part. Going through all the footage looking for the plays to make the highlight reel. Once that is done, it”s time for the narration of the game to be recorded and of course the graphics and music. Once that is all done, it goes to the webmaster and it’s uploaded to the Sportscenetv.net website. By now its been many hours after the game has taken place. But, it’s well worth it because you can truly get the feel of the game from video. So, we hope that you enjoy the videos that we post on the Sportscenetv.net website. All of the others who have video footage have resorted to just giving you video clips and that’s all. Very little graphics and no narration. A vidoe is supposed to tell you a story and without a narrator to tell you the story and graphics to supplement what you are watching and of course, music to set the mood. Then, all you are really watching is the equivalent of a confusing home movie. So, we really enjoy putting these highlight videos for our viewers and we actually consider you like our good friends who are happy with what we bring to you. If you have opinions and want be part of our great group of fans, then just get involved with the site and continue to keep us running strong. I know the season has just begun, but we have one game already under our belt and many more to come. Tell us what you think about the 2009 season and remember, all of our opinions count.

He could do some rehab work with the Inland Empire 66ers June 27th thru 29th.

So Mannywood is possibly coming to the I.E. if you believe the words coming from Dodgers Manager Joe Torre. Torre is mentioned in a recent L.A. Times article, (which can be found on the Sportscenetv.net website) to say that Manny would play four games for the Inland Empire 66ers beginning Saturday, June 27th through the 29th. Although, the 66ers official website says that Sunday and Monday’s home games against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are sold out, but there has been no official word that Ramirez is coming to the 66ers for a rehab work. So, just in case if you are not heading to any of the 66ers games, Sportscenetv.net will be there and bring you live twitter updates on the team and Manny, if he should show up. It will be interesting to see how he is welcomed to the I.E. and if he will talk to the media. For some reason, a lot of players who do rehab work in the minors do not like to talk to the media about their injury or performance or road to recovery. I am not sure why. I remember John Lackey of the Angels, when he rehabbed with them last year, we were told that we could talk to him, but no cameras – video or still – would be allowed. Only the guy who had a pad and pen could take notes, but what good does that do for proof that you interviewed Lackey and quoted him correctly? At least on audio or videotape, you could have proof that the guy said what he said. After reading the articles from his New Mexico rehab, it sounds like Manny is rusty and it will be very interesting to see if he can actually get back into the swing of things and be able to make a starting spot in the Dodgers’ line-up on July 3rd. I am not too sure he can, but after all, he is Manny and in Mannywood anything is possible. So, we will be out at the game and looking for Manny. By the way, to get your Manny updates should he be playing for the 66ers, go to our twitter page at www.twitter.com/sportscenetv

Okay, so like I told you in my last blog that I wanted to refelct on the 2008 High School Football season and hear back from you about your favorite moments. Well, since I am in the mood to look back at the most exciting moments, does November 2006 ring a bell to any of you? It should if you are a Damien or Chino Hills high school football fan. On that faitful Friday night game, our cameras were there to catch the action and boy was it a good thing. Sure you could have read it in the newspaper, but having it on video allows you to see it first hand and experience the game as if you were there in person. Anyway, the game came down to the last tenths of a second and the Chino Hills crowd runs onto the field to celebrate what they thought was a victory, but somehow Mark Mendrum of the Spartans finds time to run a last play admist all the chaos and the official on the sideline was there to signal the touchdown and the Spartans win the game and the Sierra League Title. Talk about a wild ending. Well, just below you will be able to see the video and relive that moment again.
It was a high school football season with lots of news and events occurring. Here are just a few that I think stand out for the 2008 season.

- Rancho Cucamonga defeats Los Osos

- Rancho Cucamonga defeats Upland to win the CIF-SS Central Division Football Championship

- Ayala comes from behind and pulls out a victory over the undefeated Chino Hills Huskies

- Chino Hills without a doubt plays their hearts out and almost pulls out a victory over Los Osos in the 2008 Central Division Playoffs

-Diamond Ranch goes on a six game winning streak and makes a run to the CIF-SS Southeast 2008 Football Championships game

- Damien’s Scott Morrison is dismissed as the head football coach and is replaced by Greg Gano

If you have a high school football event that occurred in 2008, let me and all of our reader of this blog know about it.

We are getting geared up to start the podcast and I am ready to talk football. First, let me apologize for our lack of a new podcast last week. I was out with the flu and was not able to make the show. Our crew attempted to bring you the show, but due to technical difficuties, it was not possible. I really want to send a shout out to our friend and sports reporter, Pete Marshall of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin for sticking in there with our crew and having the patience when those technical difficulties took place. Unfortunately, we were unable to get Pete on the air. It wasn’t just bad luck that hit us for the podcast, but also for the Rancho Cucamonga vs. Cajon. Our camera crew was out there and ready to go, but the technical glitches hit us and we were unable to bring you video highlights.

So, this week we are ready to go and just minutes away from talking about high school football! We have Pete Marshall of the Daily Bulletin lined up for our first podcast and then on the second podcast, we have Nick Biaz (head football coah of the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars), Roddy Layton (head football coach of the Diamond Ranch Panthers) and Tim Salter (head football coach of the Upland Highlanders).

Yes, I said two podcasts! We will have two 30-minute shows for you to listen to and I would highly request your comments and feedback to these two shows and of course they will be posted right here on the blog.

I would like to also thank the schools and the administrators, athletic departments and coaching staffs of all the schools we have covered.

Finally, I would like to thank you. All the fans of the website becasue it really has created an awesome high school sports community. Please continue to send us your comments us and we like reading what you have to say.
We hope that you will enjoy the two podcasts and of course the video highlights that we will post this Sunday of the two games we will be covering. Our camera crews will be at Mt. Sac to cover the Charter Oak vs. Diamond Ranch and at Chaffey College for the Upland vs. Rancho Cucamonga game.

Until the next blog, thanks for all of your support and please tell all your family and friends about us!

If you haven’t seen our extended edition of our highlights of the big Los Osos vs. Rancho Cucamonga varsity football game on Halloween night……What are you waiting for??? This definitely has to be one of the best games of 2008! I know that Jace an I picked Los Osos for the victory, but you know there is that chance we could have been right. We do go into details why we picked Los Osos in our podcast that you can hear on our website until November 12th, before 7 p.m. Of course, Brian picked Rancho, but he had his heart in the pick because there is a special someone on that team he can possibly be related to in the future. When Brian and I were at the game, we saw how much bigger and thicker the Grizzlies were to the speedsters that are on the Cougars team. I dubbed the game match-up as Speed vs Size and I thought no matter how fast a person can run, when they hit a solid block wall, they come to a dead stop. Boy, was I wrong. Quarterback Greg Watson owned the running game and he did it by going up the middle too! Maybe Los Osos was guarding for the passing game because we all know that Watson has a cannon for an arm and when the speedster for his wide receivers break loose, they outrun their opponents and are able to stay under the throw and make the catches. Los Osos did good late in the game, but it may have been too late. It wasn’t until the 4th quarter when the Osos team and crowd really fired up. It was also interesting to see all of those elements come together as the UCLA head football coach walked into the stadium. Brehaut made some awesome passes and connected with his teammates to score two TD’s. One factor that Jace and I picked Osos to win was that we were confident that Coach Martinez would be able to adjust to the Cougars play during their halftime break. I am sure that adjustments were made, but Rancho was so fired up and played emotional football that it was impossible to top them. Both teams played well, but it was Rancho who came out the winner. The awesome part of seeing the Cougars get the win was to see the Tongan dance that they do as a team. The passion and emotion that is put into this is very apparent to me. Again, you can catch our in-depth coverage of the game highlights, pre-game tailgate party interviews in the parking lot and of course the UCLA head football coach interview on the sidelines durning the big game. It’s not going to be any easier this week as the Cougars will face Alta Loma and then the final week is Rancho vs. Upland. I am sure we will definitly be covering that one too. By the way, we really would love to hear from you either on the blog or e-mail us and tell us your thoughts and opinions. We really want to know what fans have to say and how they feel. Finally, we have a big game coming up this Friday night. Ayala vs Chino Hills and the battle for first place and the Huskies run for a perfect record. Make sure to check out the website and vote on our poll question that asks who will win that battle in the Chino Hills area. Also, be sure to check out the podcast with our guest, Ayala head football coach Tom Inglima and see what he has to say about his team in 2008.

I caught this article written by the folks over at USA Today and I love to see the Inland Empire teams and players getting their props for the high caliber talent that is out there. I put the article below for you to read and tell me your thoughts about it. I even posted my very own opinion after the article to share with you.

New UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel is pulling out all the stops.

Before the season kicked off, UCLA ran a full-page ad in an area newspaper that said, “The football monopoly in Los Angeles is officially over.” Then the Bruins went out and upset Tennessee in Week 1.

Last Friday, Neuheisel found a creative way to get out in front of as many L.A.-area recruits as possible in one night.

After watching the nation’s No. 1 guard, Michael Philipp, play for San Bernardino Arroyo Valley at home against Pasadena, Neuheisel fought through Los Angeles’ traffic to make it to the Inglewood-Long Beach Wilson game. Neuheisel was there to check out four-star receivers Shaquelle Evans and Jemari Roberts.

He wasn’t done.

After watching Evans and Roberts, Neuheisel drove to the Hawthorne Airport and got in a helicopter to fly out to the Inland Empire to watch Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) on the road against Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.). That game featured Bruin commits Richard Brehaut from Los Osos and cornerback Sheldon Price from Bishop Amat.

Neuheisel wasn’t able to land at the school as expected, and was forced to land at Ontario Airport. By the time he got to the game, it was over. Nevertheless, a big impression had been made.

“It was awesome that Coach Neuheisel would have that much dedication to his recruits that he would come to our games in a helicopter,” Brehaut said. “He was never able to land even though he had permission from the school, but the sheriff didn’t allow him to land on our baseball field.

“Still, it was very cool.”

UCLA assistants also were on the road. The Bruins sent two assistants to Utah to watch John Martinez and Xavier Su’a Filo play. Another assistant went to Oregon to watch Charles Siddoway, and others were in Los Angeles watching Brandon Sermons’ game in Pomona.

This is so awesome to read and all I have to say is all the schools out there and Los Osos included, Get a landing pad :0)

What do you think about this article? Let me and the rest of the sports world know.

Psychologist: Coaches lack ample training

An Ohio psychologist, concerned that coaches aren’t getting training in boundaries with their athletes, is pushing mandated psychosocial training for high school coaches in his state.

“So many coaches come from outside of the school system — as much as 60-75% — and in many cases the age of coaches is getting younger,” said Chris Stankovich of Columbus. “Yet they have in many cases, zero training to work with kids. As a result, there have been a spike in the number of inappropriate relationships.”

Stankovich is concerned that coaching certification programs are geared more toward first-aid than ethics and behavior.

“I don’t know of any states that require psychosocial training,” Stankovich said.

Stankovich and the staffs of Ohio state Sen. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) and Ohio state Rep. Larry Flowers (R-Canal Winchester) are meeting with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) on Monday to discuss adding additional coach training.

“We’re hoping that no law is required to get this done,” said Shawn Busken, a legislative aide to Stivers. “There’s no draft of legislation, but we see that a lack of training is available.”

OHSAA Commissioner Daniel Ross said the state is in the process of requiring training for non-certified coaches, using the National Federation of State High School Association’s Fundamentals of Coaching Course, and it isn’t the best time to add additional requirements for coaches.

“We have to learn to crawl before we can walk,” Ross said. “This is a big first step.”

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I read this article I felt like they were beating around the bush about the concerns they have. Saying that the coaches are younger, does that mean they are less able to handle the emotional adolescent behaviors of young athletes? I did see that the article mentions boundaries. Does that mean that younger coaches are getting too close to athletes physically and psychologists are concerned about an increase of inappropriate behavior between coaches and athletes?

This article left me with a lot of questions but I do know that a majorityof coaches are good people. You have someone who is taking time away from their personal life to teach and train young athletes to be the best and help them make a dream come true of making them a professional athlete. I have been lucky to really have coaches that I have played for and speak to now as a reporter to be some of the nicest and respected people that I know. So, as for the article, maybe in Ohio they have a problem, but here I don’t think there is a need for added scrutiny on the coaches.

Tell me what you think and if you agree or disagree. I would sure like to hear what you have to say and especially if you have any coach stories and remember we all are entitled to our opinions here. So let’s keep it civilized and we can all agree to disagree on certain topics.
